In Other News

4 wheels good, 4 legs bad?

A horse-drawn carriage is an eco-friendly way to get to your wedding on time, right?

Or is it an animal rights issue?

Join the debate on our blog: 'Goodbye to the horse-drawn carriage?'

An ethical wedding for the Recessionista

When the credit crunch started to bite, some pundits predicted (often with unnecessary relish) that this was the end for ethical consumerism.  Who would buy Fairtrade when faced with redundancy? It was all about Number 1 again.

As Ethical Consumer points out, while people are now keen to get value for money, they haven't abandoned their values and have even discovered that some cuts can be good for the planet as well as the wallet.

In our post 'Green weddings bloom in dark times'  we explore how this approach can work for weddings too - but do you agree? How has the recession affected your ethical wedding plans? We'd love to hear your stories.

Bride on a budget

Bride on a budget

Henriette was one of our blogger brides determined that her wedding would not cost the earth - financially or ecologically.

In Henriette and John's wedding story, they tell how a tight budget helped them and their friends and family get creative - including their fabulous sushi-making bridesmaids!

Read all about it in A Danish green wedding.

Penrhos Court green wedding venue: special offer

Penrhos Court green wedding venue: special offer

We're delighted to welcome Penrhos Court, one of the original green wedding venues, to the Ethical Weddings Directory.

Penrhos is a gem of an old manor farm buried in the half-tamed border country between Herefordshire and Wales.

Seasonal, organic food is at the heart of Penrhos and wedding banquets are prepared in the award-winning kitchen by chef and nutritionist Daphne Lambert.

Penrhos is offering a 10% discount off all accommodation if you book your wedding before 31 December 2009.  Just quote "Ethical Weddings" when you make your booking.

A taste of Suffolk wedding

A taste of Suffolk wedding

To round off our September newsletter, tuck into the tale of Ethical Weddings blogger Laura's Suffolk wedding.

Laura and Andrew were keen to celebrate Suffolk's wonderful local produce and spent time visiting farmshops and food halls before coming up with a menu that included Suffolk meat, fish and veggies as well as specialties such as delectable white strawberries and raspberries - and a keg of Adnams ale!

If this month's wedding stories have inspired you to tell yours, do get in touch to share your special day with other green grooms and ethical brides.

Until next month... happy planning!
